Plan the Perfect Summer Road Trip

There is a lot to love about Laramie. As a matter of fact, we wrote about a few of our favorite restaurants in the area and the best things to do in Laramie in recent blogs, and many people love the apartments and houses that they’ve found in our neck of the woods. But now that summer is here and it’s in full swing, a lot of people develop an urge to get out on the open road.

For some of us, that means a weeks-long road trip to the coast; for others, the opportunity to get away for just a few days is all that’s needed.

The good news is that even if you’re planning to stick close to Laramie, there are plenty of places you can visit on your road trip. We’ll offer a few suggestions in today’s post. Keep reading to learn more!

Where Will Your Road Trip Take You?

The best part about a road trip is that you get to play by your rules. Unlike other trips, you won’t have to get to the airport at a specific time. Instead, you can hop into your car and head out whenever makes sense to you. You’re the maker of your own schedule, so take full advantage. Here are a few of the places we think you should check out.

Fort Collins

A quick hour long drive down US-287 will get you to Fort Collins, and while this is admittedly a rather short road trip, it can feel good to get away for a few days and explore a different city. Fortunately, Fort Collins is full of great restaurants, amazing views, and friendly people.

Whether you prefer to do some hiking or head to Old Town and hit up some of the shops, you are sure to have a blast in Fort Collins.

Rapid City

A trip for those who are a bit more dedicated to spending some time on the open road, the drive from Laramie to Rapid City will clock in at right around five hours. The good news is that when you arrive, there is plenty of fun to be had. Whether you prefer to check out Mount Rushmore or do a bit of mountain biking, Rapid City has a lot to offer.

Be sure to stop in at Murphy’s for a cold drink once you reach your destination!

Salt Lake City

The longest trip on our list, the trek from Laramie to Salt Lake City will take you around six hours if you prefer not to stop. Once you arrive, you have a lot of options in the downtown area, including dinner at Canellas. If you’re okay spending a bit more time in a car, make the drive to Albion Basin and do some exploring.
