There’s no doubt that making the decision to buy a home is a big one. There are plenty of things to keep in mind and consider, and frankly, the whole process can feel like there’s just too much to keep track of. Not to worry though, because at Laramie Property Management Group, we’re here to help! We know our local real estate market inside and out and there’s nothing we love more than guiding our clients in the right direction.
In other words, we’ll keep track of everything so you don’t have to. We can advise you on what to be aware of and which things might require your attention. As a matter of fact, in today’s post we’ll be sharing three things we think it’s important to look out for when buying a home. Keep reading to get a head start on the process!
What to Look For When Searching for Homes
It may be hard to assess the condition of a home’s roof prior to having an inspection done, but if it looks a little worse for wear when you tour with us, it’s probably best to keep in mind that the roof could be an added expense. The average lifespan for a roof is between 15 and 30 years. How long it actually lasts depends on a number of factors, but the last thing you want after buying a home is to have to get a new roof installed a year into living in it.
Needless to say, the furnace is a big thing to take a close look at. After all, the last thing you want is for a dated unit to stop working on the hottest day of the summer or the coldest day of winter. Once again, an inspector can shed some more light on what the remaining lifespan of the furnace can look like, but if it looks old, it might be on its way out.
The Hot Water Heater
Broken hot water heaters can cause problems for a number of reasons. For one, no one wants to take a cold shower. For another, if a water heater suddenly goes out and ends up emptying several gallons of water on the floor of the basement, it can require a lot of clean up — in addition to potentially damaging whatever you have stored down there.
