A Few Things New Homebuyers Should Keep In Mind

Speak to a Lender

One of the best things you can do at the beginning of your journey is to speak with a lender and figure out a good price point for your new home. There are several things that they take into consideration when giving you a number and it’s good to know what you can afford before you start shopping around. An added benefit is that if you get pre-qualified, you can put in an offer as soon as you find the right home for you.

Paperwork

You should also keep in mind that your lender will need some paperwork from you. Generally speaking, you’ll need to submit a couple of months worth of pay stubs, two years of W2s, and other similar items. In other words, it makes sense to track these items down now rather than when the lender needs them so you have everything in one place now. Ask your lender for the items he or she may need now and save yourself some time later.

Set Aside Money

You may have set aside your down payment, but it’s also a good idea to think about what you’ll need to do right after moving into your new home. For example, will you need new appliances? Do you need a ceiling fan in the bedroom? Patio furniture? Paint? New decorations? A rug? These are all things to think about. You may be able to wait on some of the items on your list, but it’s important to be realistic and price things out so you know how much money you’ll need when you move in.
